The Quarantine Station history…
History
Woodman Point was used as a Quarantine Station for most ships, the community of Perth, and Australia’s immigration throughout its history.
On the site, you will find two hospitals that were used to either try to help those who were ill or make their lives as comfortable before passing.
As ships that had any Quarantine concerns were brought to the station the people on board these ships were disembarked and stayed at the Station until their quarantine was over or sadly they lost their lives.
With its many buildings and its rich history, this site is known for being Perth’s best secret because of how close it is to the Port city of Fremantle.
Many people who pass through the doors at the Quarantine Station did survive but sadly many lost their lives too. Some of the diseases people had were Smallpox, Bubonic plague, Spanish flu and many more.
The site was also used by the Army before the war and it has a rich history that connects with many Australian families to this site as well. Some who worked there were Doctors and nurses, and their families often worked on the site too. These were everyday people and some had connections to the Australian Defense Force.
There are estimated to be 1000s of people who passed through the Quarantine Station and many who have lost their lives.
